Selfreliance Federal Credit Union is a member-owned financial cooperative headquartered in Chicago’s Ukrainian Village, serving nearly 49,000 members across Illinois, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, and New Jersey with over $1 billion in assets. Founded in 1951 by Ukrainian immigrants, it has grown through multiple mergers and operates 15 branch offices as of February 2026. The credit union is regulated by the NCUA and provides affordable loans, savings products, and community support focused on the Ukrainian-American community.

Membership Restrictions

Membership is open to any person who is a member of one of the Selfreliance Association of American Ukrainians branches (Chicago IL, Newark NJ, Jersey City NJ), the Future Ukrainian American Aid Association of Detroit MI, or the Hartford Branch of the Selfreliance Association in Connecticut. Prospective members must join the sponsoring association with a $5 donation and maintain a minimum $5 deposit in a savings account to become a credit union member. While the associations historically served persons of Ukrainian ancestry, the credit union emphasizes that membership is accessible to anyone willing to join the association.
