Local Government Federal Credit Union (LGFCU) is a not-for-profit, member-owned financial cooperative headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina, established in 1983 with a federal charter. It serves over 330,000 members across North Carolina and is the state’s only credit union exclusively serving local government employees, elected and appointed officials, volunteers, and their families. With approximately $2.2 billion in assets, LGFCU is the fourth-largest credit union in North Carolina.

Membership Restrictions

Membership is open to employees and volunteers of North Carolina municipal and county governments, elected and appointed officials, and their immediate family members (spouse, children, grandchildren, parents, siblings, and grandparents). Emergency management services personnel, including fire, rescue, and law enforcement, are also eligible. Family members living in the same household as an LGFCU member and businesses owned by or primarily serving local government employees may join. Those outside the primary field of membership can become a Friend of the Civic Foundation to gain eligibility.
